Lily Jane Collinswas born on March 18, 1989, in Guildford, England. Her father, Phil Collins, is a renowned British musician and singer. Her mother, Jill Tavelman, is an American. Lily has two older half-siblings from her father's first marriage: Joely Collins and Simon Collins. She also has two younger half-siblings from her father's subsequent marriage: Nicholas and Matthew.

Lily's parents met in 1980 and married in 1984. They separated in 1996, although they had parted ways earlier. Lily's mother returned to the United States with her young daughter, raising Lily in Los Angeles.

Education and Journalism Ambitions

Despite appearing in a television series at the age of two, Lily's initial passion was journalism. As a teenager, she wrote a column called "NY Confidential" for the British teen magazine "Elle Girl" and contributed to various Los Angeles-based publications.
